Otto Wiesenthal, Founder of Hotel Altstadt Vienna, requested to create a Suite dedicated to his dear ancestor Grete Wiesenthal - a pioneer of the viennese Dance Modernism of the last century. The design concept of the Grete Wiesenthal Suite brings a dynamic vita to life and combines it with a contemporary reflection: A mirror on the ceiling of the salon invites guests to look up, and immerse in Grete‘s particular dance posture – turning with wide open arms, facing up to the sky – experiencing the „spherical head“ as she would describe.
Inspired by Grete Wiesenthal’s movements, customized textile patterns were created for this project. Line drawings of Grete’s flowing dresses and hair in motion were traced and screen-printed by hand on textiles for curtains and upholstery. In this way, Grete Wiesenthal continues the dance on the fabrics through the Suite.
